Meet RV Maria
“Don’t you go falling in love with it now, because we’re taking it with us when we leave here next month.” –Cousin Eddie
Eddie was right—they are easy to fall in love with. You can live in them and you can drive them anywhere. Just don’t look at ‘em too closely. If you do, you might notice things like the shower draining to the black tank, the slide not working consistently, the various plumbing leaks, or the fact that that the fuel tank arrow on the instrument cluster points to the wrong side. But that’s what we get for buying a 1977 Winnebago. Wait, we bought a brand new 2017 Thor Four Winds. Regardless, she’s a beautiful tenement on wheels.
What to name a rig this beautiful? We didn’t have to think about it for long, as we quickly discovered she already had a name- Maria. After all, it was written on a sticker on the side wall of the entry door. Duh, should have checked there first. “RV Maria” just has a certain churchy ring to it.
On August 5th we’ll start our quest. A quest for the great unknown. A quest to make great friends we don’t even know yet. A quest to see just what we’re made of. I don’t mean that in a survivalist kind of way but rather a ‘who are we?’ kind of way. God has given all of us talents and abilities, but how are we using them? I’m embarrassed to say I’ve been using mine to insulate myself from anything that makes me uncomfortable. How helpful is that? Not very…
I’m convinced we’ll have wonderful stories to tell and I hope that they inspire others to make bold decisions. I have an amazing family and you’ll get to know them pretty well if you follow along. I’m very sad to leave some important people in my life, but hopefully we’ll be able to enrich the lives of many more.
Please send us your ideas, your contacts, and your duct tape.
